I can't use my phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot - HTC One M9

Cause 1 of 2: The wrong password is entered on the device you want to connect from.

The password used on your phone needs to entered on the device you want to connect from.

Solution: Enter the correct password.

Step 1 of 16

Find "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot"

Slide your finger down the display starting from the top edge of your phone.
Press the settings icon.

Find "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot"

Press More.

Press Mobile network sharing.

Find "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot"

Press Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Select settings for Wi-Fi hotspot

Key in the required name for the Wi-Fi hotspot.
Press the menu icon.

Press Advanced.

Press SECURITY.

If you don't want to password protect your Wi-Fi hotspot:
Press None.

Press the return icon.

If you want to password protect your Wi-Fi hotspot:
Press WPA2 (AES).

Press the return icon.

Press the field below "PASSWORD (8-63 ASCII CHARACTERS)" and key in the required password.

Turn on Wi-Fi hotspot

Press the indicator next to "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot" until the function is turned on.

Press OK.

Establish connection

Do the following on the device which is to connect to your Wi-Fi hotspot:
Turn on Wi-Fi.
Find the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
Select the network name you keyed in in step 2.
Key in the password you selected in step 2 and establish a connection to the Wi-Fi hotspot.
When the connection is established, you can access the internet from the other device.

Return to the home screen

Press the home icon to return to the home screen.

2 Select settings for Wi-Fi hotspot

Key in the required name for the Wi-Fi hotspot.
Press the menu icon.
Press Advanced.

If you don't want to password protect your Wi-Fi hotspot:
Press None.
Press the return icon.
If you want to password protect your Wi-Fi hotspot:
Press WPA2 (AES).
Press the return icon.
Press the field below "PASSWORD (8-63 ASCII CHARACTERS)" and key in the required password.

3 Turn on Wi-Fi hotspot

Press the indicator next to "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot" until the function is turned on.
Press OK.

4 Establish connection

Do the following on the device which is to connect to your Wi-Fi hotspot:
Turn on Wi-Fi.
Find the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
Select the network name you keyed in in step 2.
Key in the password you selected in step 2 and establish a connection to the Wi-Fi hotspot.
When the connection is established, you can access the internet from the other device.

5 Return to the home screen

Press the home icon to return to the home screen.
